Important updates are being made to the Vertex specialty pharmacy network

At Vertex, patients are at the center of everything we do. That’s why Vertex continually evaluates its specialty pharmacy network to ensure it meets the needs of people who have been prescribed KALYDECO® (ivacaftor) or ORKAMBI® (lumacaftor/ivacaftor). After a rigorous review of various specialty pharmacies, Vertex has decided to update its network.

Beginning on August 1, 2017, CVS Specialty Pharmacy will no longer be part of the Vertex specialty pharmacy network. In addition, Maxor Specialty/IV Solutions/Pharmaceutical Specialties (PSI) has been added to the network.

Below are answers to some questions you may have. If you have any other questions, be sure to contact your Vertex GPS Case Manager at 1-877-752-5933 (press 2).

KALYDECO and ORKAMBI are not available through other specialty pharmacies.

  • If you receive KALYDECO or ORKAMBI from CVS Specialty Pharmacy, you'll have to switch to a different pharmacy before August 1st, 2017. You should call your Case Manager at your earliest convenience so he or she can help you switch to a different pharmacy. Your Case Manager will also be reaching out to you to help with this transition, and will be keeping your healthcare provider informed along the way
  • Vertex GPS will be working closely with specialty pharmacies, health plans, nurses, patients, and physicians over the next several months to help with a smooth transition for people affected by these changes
Below are some important steps that you should be aware of if you are enrolled in Vertex GPS and impacted by this change.
  1. Speak to your Case Manager. He or she will be calling you to help identify a specialty pharmacy within the network that fits your needs.
  2. Continue to refill your prescription. While your Case Manager is working through the transition process to identify a new specialty pharmacy, it's important to continue to refill any prescriptions.
  3. Be on the lookout for Vertex GPS communications. Your Case Manager will be sending notifications and reminders to you and your center about the network changes between now and August 1, 2017. Your Case Manager will also be in touch with your care center separately to keep them informed of any requirements, including whether a new prescription or prior authorization is needed.
  4. Review your confirmation notification. Once you have transitioned to a new specialty pharmacy, your Case Manager will be sending you a confirmation notification once your prescription has been transferred.

Vertex GPS offers product support services for patients enrolled in the program. If you are not enrolled in the program but are interested in enrolling, please speak with your healthcare provider. Enrollment in GPS is not required for patients to transition to one of the specialty pharmacies within the new network.
